Three Strands is our kids and teen ministry. The name comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12 "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken." (NIV). While this verse in Ecclesiastes is a general statement about the dangers of going it alone, at Resurrection the “three strands” that make up our kids and teen ministry are God’s Word, meaningful relationships with peers and across generations, and service to others. On Sunday mornings, we try to include all ages as much as possible in a single worship gathering, though we do have nursery for little ones and a separate KidsTime during the sermon for preK-2nd. At our Sunday Night Connections from 5-6:30 PM at the VLC building (right next to the PA rec center) we have age-separated meeting time for our kids and teens, along with food and opportunities to connect with adults as well. Three Strands welcomes all kids and teens to Sunday night and other activities regardless of whether you are a member or worship at Resurrection on Sunday mornings. If you’d like to join us or want more details, RSVP here to let us know you’re interested!
God’s Word
Everything we do at Resurrection is founded on the unshakeable truth of God’s Word, and we want all of our kids and teens to love the Bible and learn to read it and understand it for themselves. This means we seek to keep Sunday morning preaching accessible to all ages and our Sunday night time is also centered around Biblical truth.
Meaningful relationships
At Resurrection, we seek a growing relationship with God in real community with others, and kids and teens are part of that! Kids and teens need significant relationships with Godly peers who are facing the same challenges and also with adults who care for them and take real interest in them and their lives. We seek to cultivate these relationships with an appropriate mix of age-separated times and intergenerational times.
SErvice
Service is not just an add-on that we occasionally engage when we’re feeling good, but a core part of the identity we seek to shape in our kids and teens. We want to be a serving people, as we believe God has blessed us in order that we might be a blessing to others (Genesis 12:2). Our kids and teens serve on Sunday mornings in set-up, clean-up, and caring for and teaching younger children, throughout the year with neighborhood events like Easter Egg Hunts, and at our summer camp.
Summer’s Best two Weeks
Our SB2W sports camp is an integral part of the 3 Strands ministry. Kids and young teens attend as campers, and then mid and older teens serve as counselors and work crew. At SB2W, they engage in daily bible studies, develop deep and meaningful relationships, and learn to live out the I’m Third motto “God First, Others Second, I’m Third”
